My Story
Foxy One Feather was born in Gilroy, CA and raised in Oakland, CA. Her people are Chichimeca from Guanajuato and Nuevo Leon, Mexico, who has dedicated her life to fighting for environmental and climate justice by restoring first foods to the land and helping communities regain healthy diets . Her journey as a First Food Land Steward began during the Dakota Access Pipeline Protests, where she played a crucial role in the resistance movement.
From November 2016 to March 2017, Foxy lived at the Standing Rock Camps, where she was actively involved in the protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline. After leaving Standing Rock, she continued her activism at the Cheyenne River Camp at the Wakpa Waste Camp. Her commitment to the cause led her to Wiconi Un Tipi, where she worked with Dakota Rural Action and other grassroots organizations from 2017 to 2022.
At Wiconi Un Tipi, Foxy started and managed a garden for three seasons, providing a sustainable source of food for the community. She also helped establish community gardens in Rapid City and on Pine Ridge Reservation, promoting food sovereignty and community empowerment. Her efforts extended beyond her work at Wiconi Un Tipi, as she has donated seeds, seedlings, gardening supplies, and food to various communities across Turtle Island.
In 2020, Foxy returned to Oakland to care for her mother, but she has continued to be involved in garden projects throughout the Bay area. As a mother of four and a grandmother of one, Foxy's dedication to First Foods is not only a personal passion but also a commitment to creating a better future for her family and community. Foxy remains in Oakland and continues many grassroots initiatives throughout the region. She is also a member of the Brown Berets and has been a force against ICE in her community.
Foxy's work embodies the spirit of resistance and community building, highlighting the importance of collective action in the fight against environmental injustices. Her contributions to the environmental justice movement serve as a testament to the power of grassroots activism and the impact that individuals can have when working together towards a common goal.
